I am currently living in Newcastle, NSW, and came to Australia in 2014, from NZ, to take a full-time sports dietitian role working with a professional sports team. I am an Australian Accredited Practicing Dietitian and Accredited Sports Dietitian.
Working with junior athletes and those who support them from the kitchen and the side-lines has always been a favourite part of my work and an area I have built sound knowledge around.
As an experienced mum who has fed a lot of hungry youths over the years I know it isn’t always an easy task to be doing it right all the time. Making nutrition easy and practical, and food tasty, is what I do best.
I have competed in local triathlons, multi-sport events and even made it to the finish line in an Ironman event. For now, I am just enjoying swimming, yoga, eating and I can never listen to enough podcasts.
We have been very fortunate to have Rachel work in our Junior Development program at the Newcastle Knights for the past 4 years.
There is no doubt that our young players and parents have a far greater awareness of the importance of nutrition for their performance and now see nutrition as an important part of their footy life.
Rachel provides education that is simple and practical but still keeps them improving on their knowledge.
She makes it easy for players and their parents to contact her directly when they are seeking improvements or to check in with her about what they are going.
We value her easy-going nature that fits well with the team and club culture we have created and her high level of professional standards to ensure our players are best they can be.
I have had the privilege of working with Rachel at the Newcastle Knights Rugby League Club over the last 2 years.
Rachel’s work in the area of dietary services has significantly transformed our playing group in the direction our Performance Staff wanted to head. She ensures that the players are constantly educated about nutrition – in this way we have found that they buy-in more to what she is implementing.
Her practical approach together with her knowledge in both areas of nutrition and supplements has enhanced the performance of the players.
Rachel has definitely made my role easier. Her dedication to her field, work ethic and constant pursuit of “cutting edge” approach continue to help improve our performance on and off the field.
I have no hesitation in recommending her sports nutrition expertise.
I worked with Rachel for a number of years when I was the Personal Development Manager for the Hurricanes Super Rugby team and the Wellington Lions rugby team. I got to utilise Rachel’s skills for my program and to witness up close the impact she made as a professional on rugby players from the age group elite and emerging talent through to some of the most highly regarded players in the sport world-wide.
Rachel was a professional who drove a holistic and inclusive approach to her work. She worked with players (and their families) from a wide variety of backgrounds, ability, education levels and understanding and succeeded by building trust and maintaining it.
I still refer people to Rachel and have used her to assist my own family as they have pursued their sporting goals. That is perhaps the best indication of the respect I have for her and the work she does.
Rachel your service and availability has been nothing but outstanding. Thank you so much, we certainly wouldn't be here without you!
